Vinyasa is a Sanskrit term which means "synchronization of movement and breathing". The movements of vinyasa yoga are fluid and almost dancing, which is why it is sometimes called Hatha Flow. This course has been designed to help develop flexibility and muscle strength. It aims to help the participants regain their internal balance and relax the stress on the body and the mind. These sequences of dynamic movements are composed of classical Hatha postures, but each course is unique to the particular style of the teacher.
Consisting of a set series of postures, this course allows you to move with grace during a training that will make you sweat! We offer the same sequence in each course to help you deepen your practice. You can then appreciate the changes in your ability to follow the sequence and observe your own physical progression. With its slightly faster pace than the Vinyasa, this course is appreciated by participants with a minimum of experience in yoga and other sports activities.
Core conditionning (fitness)
This course is a series of strength conditioning exercises and ab-workouts with small tonic movements in between to allow a cardiovascular work. It is not only designed to give you a flat stomach or decrease your back pain; it is a full enhancement of your deeper muscles. It improves your joints, your posture and solidifies the mastery of your body. This course is not formatted and can change, but always fun.
Learn to take the principles of the Chakras, the seven energy centres of the body, into your practice. The Chakra system is a way of explaining how the physical body, natural elements, emotions and the psyche are all interconnected. This class will be led by Lauren, where she will blend yoga postures, yogic breath techniques and mantra for an incredibly awakening experience.
Generally in soft rhythm, this type of class is suitable for beginners as well as those who have an advanced practice and appreciate Hatha. In this class, breath is linked to movement and we focus on pranayama (control of breathing). This course focuses mainly on alignment and postures are held for longer periods of time to develop awareness around your practice and that of others.
The class is fast paced and invigorating and is certainly one of our “get-in-shape” classes. The structure is a fixed set sequence instructed in a vinyasa style, and usually includes a wide range of asanas. The teacher focuses on keeping the pace moving and since the asana sequence is always the same, a student will pick it up quite quickly after only a couple of classes.
A Kundalini class begins with a short chant followed by a warm-up to stretch the spine and improve flexibility. Each asana sequence (kriya) is a preset series of poses that is done with a specific breathing technique and engagement of the bandhas to intensify the effects of the pose. The class ends with a meditation. It is indeed one of the most spiritual types of yoga we offer at the club.
"Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic and powerful hatha yoga tradition whose roots come from Mysore in southern India.
It is a system that relies on sequences of asanas (physical postures). They are synchronized with breathing, bandhas (energy locks) and drishtis (focus points).
Ujjay breathing and movement create internal heat; these are the key elements of this practice. With regular practice, strength, stamina, stability and flexibility progressively put in place, as is the mastering of postures.
